Moderate magnitude 4.2 quake hits 26 km northwest of Técpan de Galeana, Mexico early afternoon

An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred early afternoon on Tuesday, April 19th, 2022, at 3:36 pm local time near Técpan de Galeana, Guerrero, Mexico, as reported by Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a moderately shallow depth of 33 km. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.2 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in La Esmeralda (pop. 47) located 5 km from the epicenter, san luis de la loma (pop. 4,200) 24 km away, El Suchil (pop. 7,000) 25 km away, and Técpan de Galeana (pop. 15,100) 26 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Papanoa (pop. 3,500) located 35 km from the epicenter, Atoyac de Alvarez (pop. 21,400) 40 km away, San Jeronimo de Juarez (pop. 7,200) 42 km away, and Petatlan (pop. 21,700) 58 km away.
