An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred only 13 minutes ago 51 km southwest of Kagoshima, Japan, Japan's National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate to considerable depth of 156.7 km beneath the epicenter near Kagoshima, Kagoshima Shi, Japan, in the evening on Friday, April 29th, 2022, at 8:23 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.4 earthquake.
