Magnitude 4.2 earthquake strikes near Bucaramanga, Santander, Colombia
4.2 quake 9 Km S of Girón, Colombia, May 28, 2022 9:26 pm (GMT -5)

An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred only 13 minutes ago 17 km southwest of Bucaramanga, Colombia, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate depth of 129.6 km beneath the epicenter near Bucaramanga, Santander, Colombia, in the evening on Saturday, May 28th, 2022, at 9:26 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.2 as well. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 3.5.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Giron (pop. 108,500) located 10 km from the epicenter, Floridablanca (pop. 252,300) 12 km away, Piedecuesta (pop. 86,400) 13 km away, Lebrija (pop. 8,900) 16 km away, and Bucaramanga (pop. 571,800) 17 km away. In San Gil (pop. 33,600, 47 km away), Malaga (pop. 18,700, 57 km away), Socorro (pop. 17,800, 58 km away), and Pamplona (pop. 53,600, 72 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
