Small 3.6 quake hits near Hilo, Hawaii County, Hawaii, USA

The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.6 quake in the United States near Hilo, Hawaii County, Hawaii, only 19 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the afternoon on Saturday, May 28th, 2022, at 4:14 pm local time at a shallow depth of 17 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.6 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.6.

In Mountain View (pop. 3,900, 38 miles away), Holualoa (pop. 8,500, 44 miles away), Hawaiian Paradise Park (pop. 11,400, 46 miles away), Kailua-Kona (pop. 12,000, 48 miles away), Hilo (pop. 43,300, 48 miles away), and Kalaoa (pop. 9,600, 51 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
