Small tremor of magnitude 3.4 just reported 11 miles northwest of Big Spring, Texas, United States 3.4 quake 16 Jun 2:56 pm (GMT -5) A magnitude 3.4 earthquake near Big Spring, Howard County, Texas, USA, was reported only 13 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered the key international and national agency that monitors seismic activity in the US. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 3.1 miles beneath the epicenter early afternoon on Thursday, June 16th, 2022, at 2:56 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.4 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.4. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Big Spring (pop. 28,900) located 11 miles from the epicenter, and Stanton (pop. 2,900) 17 miles away. In Lamesa (pop. 9,400, 33 miles away), Midland (pop. 133,000, 34 miles away), Snyder (pop. 11,800, 50 miles away), and Andrews (pop. 13,800, 53 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
