Moderate magnitude 4.4 quake hits 68 km southwest of Ishigaki, Japan early evening 4.4 quake 22 Jun 6:30 pm (GMT +9) The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 4.4 quake in Japan near Ishigaki, Ishigaki-shi, Okinawa, only 18 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early evening on Wednesday, June 22nd, 2022, at 6:30 pm local time at a moderately shallow depth of 30 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ishigaki (pop. 44,800) located 68 km from the epicenter, and Yonakuni (pop. 1,700) 80 km away.
