Moderate magnitude 4.3 quake hits 23 km northeast of Langarūd, Iran early evening 4.3 quake 3 Jul 6:35 pm (GMT +4:30) An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred only 18 minutes ago 23 km northeast of Langarūd, Iran, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported. The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 8 km beneath the epicenter near Langarūd, Gilan Province, Iran, early evening on Sunday, July 3rd, 2022, at 6:05 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Langarūd (pop. 68,100) located 23 km from the epicenter, Rūdsar (pop. 47,500) 27 km away, and Āstāneh-ye Ashrafīyeh (pop. 42,800) 31 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Bandar-e Anzali (pop. 110,800) located 72 km from the epicenter, Tonekābon (pop. 37,500) 83 km away, and Fūman (pop. 27,800) 86 km away. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
