An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred early morning on Tuesday, July 19th, 2022, at 1:56 am local time near Nuevo Imperial, Provincia de Cañete, Lima region, Peru, as reported by the United States Geological Survey.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at an intermediate depth of 70.8 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.

Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Pacaran (pop. 920) located 13 km from the epicenter, Nuevo Imperial (pop. 32,300) 25 km away, Imperial (pop. 32,300) 26 km away, Imperial (pop. 32,300) 26 km away, and San Vicente de Cañete (pop. 25,500) 30 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Chincha Alta (pop. 153,100) located 56 km from the epicenter, Mala (pop. 17,300) 57 km away, and Pisco (pop. 61,900) 90 km away.
