The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 4.1 quake in the United States near Atka, Aleutians West, Alaska, only 16 minutes ago. The earthquake hit after midnight on Thursday, July 28th, 2022, at 12:13 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 21 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.1 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.1.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Atka (pop. 64) located 52 miles from the epicenter.
