Magnitude 4.4 earthquake strikes near Acapulco, Acapulco de Juárez, Guerrero, Mexico

An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred only 30 minutes ago 18 km southeast of Acapulco, Mexico, Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 14 km beneath the epicenter near Acapulco, Acapulco de Juárez, Guerrero, Mexico, early afternoon on Saturday, August 20th, 2022, at 2:57 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.4.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Fraccionamiento Campestre de la Laguna (pop. 160) located 8 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Tres Palos (pop. 5,000) located 11 km from the epicenter, San Pedro las Playas (pop. 4,300) 13 km away, Tuncingo (pop. 2,600) 13 km away, Amatillo (pop. 3,300) 17 km away, Acapulco (pop. 673,500) 18 km away, Kilometro 30 (pop. 6,300) 30 km away, Coyuca de Benitez (pop. 13,600) 44 km away, and San Marcos (pop. 13,300) 44 km away.
