Moderate magnitude 4.6 quake hits 49 km southeast of Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Mexico early morning

Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN) reported a magnitude 4.6 quake in Mexico near Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Zihuatanejo de Azueta, Guerrero, only 28 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Friday, August 26th, 2022, at 2:14 am local time at a shallow depth of 17 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.6 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.6.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Las Salinas (Salinas el Cuajo) (pop. 330) located 37 km from the epicenter, Petatlan (pop. 21,700) 41 km away, San Jeronimito (pop. 6,800) 41 km away, Papanoa (pop. 3,500) 45 km away, El Coacoyul (pop. 6,900) 48 km away, Ixtapa Zihuatanejo (pop. 67,400) 49 km away, and Ixtapa Zihuatanejo (pop. 9,000) 55 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Técpan de Galeana (pop. 15,100) located 87 km from the epicenter.
