An earthquake of magnitude 5.1 occurred early afternoon on Sunday, September 4th, 2022, at 3:46 pm local time near Sendai, Sendai Shi, Honshu-miyagi-ken, Japan, as reported by Japan's National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a moderately shallow depth of 63.2 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
