An earthquake of magnitude 3.5 occurred 38 minutes ago 30 miles southwest of Tennant Creek, Australia, Geoscience Australia (GeoAu) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 1.1 miles beneath the epicenter near Tennant Creek, Barkly, Northern Territory, Australia, in the morning on Tuesday, October 4th, 2022, at 9:33 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.5 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Tennant Creek (pop. 3,200) located 30 miles from the epicenter.
