An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred only 14 minutes ago 10 km southeast of Chichibu, Japan, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate depth of 130 km beneath the epicenter near Chichibu, Chichibu-shi, Saitama, Japan, after midnight on Sunday, October 16th, 2022, at 12:25 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake as well.
