Small 2.8 quake hits near Challans, Vendée, Pays de la Loire, France

France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) reported a magnitude 2.8 quake in France near Challans, Vendée, Pays de la Loire, only 10 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Monday, October 24th, 2022, at 8:08 am local time at a very shallow depth of 5 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 2.8 earthquake as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Saint-Jean-de-Monts (pop. 7,400) located 3 km from the epicenter.
