Just 9 minutes ago, a 2.5-magnitude earthquake struck near Sallanches, Haute-Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France. The tremor was recorded in the afternoon on Sunday, November 13th, 2022, at 5:33 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 4 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the Swiss Seismological Service (SED), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.6. A third agency, France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS), reported the same quake at magnitude 2.2.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Chamonix (pop. 10,600) located 5 km from the epicenter, Les Houches (pop. 3,000) 5 km away, and Saint-Gervais-les-Bains (pop. 5,900) 12 km away. In Passy (pop. 11,600, 14 km away), Domancy (pop. 1,900, 17 km away), Megève (pop. 5,100, 20 km away), Sallanches (pop. 16,700, 20 km away), and Cluses (pop. 19,800, 31 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
