An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 occurred only 29 minutes ago 30 km northwest of Uruzgān, Afghanistan, India's National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Uruzgān, Khāş Uruzgān, Oruzgan, Afghanistan, late at night on Friday, December 16th, 2022, at 10:40 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Uruzgān (pop. 13,400) located 30 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Tareen (pop. 10,000) located 77 km from the epicenter.
