Small tremor of magnitude 3.7 reported 40 km southwest of Fisterra, Spain

An earthquake of magnitude 3.7 occurred early morning on Thursday, December 29th, 2022, at 1:45 am local time near Fisterra, La Coruña, Galicia, Spain, as reported by Spain's Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 0 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, IPMA) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.5. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 3.5, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 3.5.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Fisterra (pop. 5,000) located 40 km from the epicenter, Cee (pop. 7,400) 48 km away, Ribeira (pop. 27,200) 66 km away, and Boiro (pop. 18,900) 71 km away. In Vilagarcia de Arousa (pop. 37,600, 82 km away), and Santo Tomas (pop. 27,000, 89 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
