A magnitude 5.0 earthquake near Bani, Baní, Provincia de Peravia, Dominican Republic, was reported only 22 minutes ago by the United States Geological Survey, considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity in the Dominican Republic. The earthquake occurred at a moderately shallow depth of 45.1 km beneath the epicenter in the morning on Wednesday, February 1st, 2023, at 7:11 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
