Significant magnitude 5.2 quake hits 33 km northwest of San Jose, Costa Rica early morning

Costa Rica was shaken near San Jose, San José, Provincia de San José, by an earthquake of magnitude 5.2 only 24 minutes ago, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near San Jose, San José, Provincia de San José, Costa Rica, early morning on Saturday, February 18th, 2023, at 2:24 am local time. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.

Weak shaking might have been felt in Ciudad de Limon (pop. 63,100) located 127 km from the epicenter.
