Small magnitude 3.2 quake hits 12 km south of Bressuire, France in the evening 3.2 quake 19 Feb 8:08 pm (GMT +1) An earthquake of magnitude 3.2 occurred only 13 minutes ago 12 km south of Bressuire, France, France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) reported. The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 5 km beneath the epicenter near Bressuire, Deux-Sèvres, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France, in the evening on Sunday, February 19th, 2023, at 8:08 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in La Chapelle-Saint-Laurent (pop. 1,800) located 2 km from the epicenter, Moncoutant (pop. 3,000) 7 km away, and Courlay (pop. 2,300) 8 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Bressuire (pop. 20,700) located 12 km from the epicenter, Cerizay (pop. 4,800) 17 km away, and Parthenay (pop. 11,600) 21 km away. In Fontenay-le-Comte (pop. 16,300, 38 km away), and Cholet (pop. 53,200, 47 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
