Moderate yet deep magnitude 5.2 earthquake 42 km northeast of Huatacondo, Chile
5.2 quake 3 Jun 6:08 am (GMT -4)

Chile was shaken near Huatacondo, Provincia del Tamarugal, Tarapaca, by an earthquake of magnitude 5.2 only 15 minutes ago, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate depth of 101 km beneath the epicenter near Huatacondo, Provincia del Tamarugal, Tarapaca, Chile, early morning on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023, at 6:08 am local time. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 5.2 earthquake as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Huatacondo (pop. 55) located 42 km from the epicenter, La Tirana (pop. 1,500) 105 km away, and Pozo Almonte (pop. 9,300) 121 km away.
