2.7 quake 31 May 1:27 pm (GMT +2)

An earthquake of magnitude 2.7 occurred around noon on Wednesday, May 31st, 2023, at 1:27 pm local time near Rijeka, Primorsko-Goranska Županija, Croatia, as reported by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 5.7 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.7 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Bribir (pop. 1,800) located 1 km from the epicenter, Selce (pop. 1,600) 3 km away, Crkvenica (pop. 7,200) 5 km away, Novi Vinodolski (pop. 5,300) 6 km away, Jadranovo (pop. 1,200) 13 km away, and Omišalj (pop. 1,900) 17 km away. In Porto Re (pop. 2,900, 19 km away), Krk (pop. 3,700, 22 km away), and Rijeka (pop. 141,200, 30 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
