Just 18 minutes ago, a 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Dhekiajuli, Sonitpur, Assam, India. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Sunday, June 11th, 2023, at 11:05 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 5 km below the surface.
The event was filed by India's National Center for Seismology (NCS), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Dhekiajuli (pop. 21,300) located 2 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
