Small earthquake of magnitude 3.0 just reported 25 km northeast of Nkowakowa, South Africa 3.0 quake 1 Jul 7:53 am (GMT +2) A magnitude 3.0 earthquake near Nkowakowa, Mopani District Municipality, Limpopo, South Africa, was reported only 18 minutes ago by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter in the morning on Saturday, July 1st, 2023, at 7:53 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ga-Kgapane (pop. 13,000) located 22 km from the epicenter, and Nkowakowa (pop. 30,100) 25 km away. In Duiwelskloof (pop. 24,600, 29 km away), Tzaneen (pop. 17,000, 31 km away), and Giyani (pop. 37,000, 53 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
