Significant earthquake of magnitude 5.1 just reported 12 km southeast of Hirara, Japan

Just 20 minutes ago, a 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Hirara, Miyakojima Shi, Okinawa, Japan. The tremor was recorded early morning on Wednesday, August 16th, 2023, at 2:07 am local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 36.2 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.0. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 5.0.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Hirara (pop. 34,400) located 12 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
