Small 3.0 quake hits near Pau, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Just 12 minutes ago, a 3.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Pau, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. The tremor was recorded early evening on Tuesday, August 15th, 2023, at 6:42 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 16.7 km below the surface.
The event was filed by France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 2.9.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ance (pop. 230) located 2 km from the epicenter, Arette (pop. 1,200) 4 km away, and Oloron-Sainte-Marie (pop. 12,600) 10 km away. In Mourenx (pop. 8,100, 27 km away), Billère (pop. 14,900, 31 km away), Lons (pop. 13,900, 31 km away), Lescar (pop. 9,700, 31 km away), and Pau (pop. 82,700, 34 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
