Small magnitude 2.9 quake hits 22 miles northeast of Hawker, Australia late at night 2.9 quake 20 Sep 10:32 pm (GMT +9:30) Just 31 minutes ago, a 2.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Hawker, Flinders Ranges, South Australia, Australia. The tremor was recorded late at night on Wednesday, September 20th, 2023, at 10:02 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 5.3 miles below the surface. The event was filed by Geoscience Australia (GeoAu), the first seismological agency to report it. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 2.9 as well. According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Hawker (pop. 400, 22 miles away), Barndioota (pop. 10, 24 miles away), Blinman (pop. 63, 34 miles away), Cradock (pop. 31, 34 miles away), and Belton (pop. 18, 45 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
