Magnitude 4.8 earthquake strikes near Dipayal, Doti, Sudurpashchim Pradesh, Nepal

Just 17 minutes ago, a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Dipayal, Doti, Sudurpashchim Pradesh, Nepal. The tremor was recorded late at night on Wednesday, October 11th, 2023, at 11:37 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.8 earthquake as well. A third agency, India's National Center for Seismology (NCS), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.7.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Dipayal (pop. 23,400) located 44 km from the epicenter, Dharchula (pop. 18,300) 66 km away, Dadeldhurā (pop. 19,000) 67 km away, and Pithoragarh (pop. 47,600) 94 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Dailekh (pop. 20,900) located 99 km from the epicenter, Dhangadhi (pop. 92,300) 115 km away, and Tikapur (pop. 44,800) 119 km away.
