Small earthquake of magnitude 3.0 just reported 35 km north of Brest, France 3.0 quake 11 Oct 6:08 pm (GMT +2) A magnitude 3.0 earthquake near Brest, Finistère, Bretagne, France, was reported only 10 minutes ago by France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 5 km beneath the epicenter early evening on Wednesday, October 11th, 2023, at 6:08 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 3.0 as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Plouguerneau (pop. 5,900) located 11 km from the epicenter, Landeda (pop. 3,100) 14 km away, Lannilis (pop. 4,700) 15 km away, Ploudalmézeau (pop. 5,200) 21 km away, Lesneven (pop. 7,100) 21 km away, and Plabennec (pop. 7,600) 24 km away. In Guipavas (pop. 13,800, 31 km away), Landerneau (pop. 16,100, 35 km away), and Brest (pop. 144,900, 35 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
