Just 13 minutes ago, a 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Uthal, Lasbela, Balochistan, Pakistan. The tremor was recorded early morning on Friday, December 15th, 2023, at 2:50 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was filed by India's National Center for Seismology (NCS), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Uthal (pop. 16,500) located 26 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Bela (pop. 20,100) located 58 km from the epicenter, Gadani (pop. 13,400) 95 km away, and Karachi (pop. 11,624,200) 125 km away.
