An earthquake of magnitude 3.9 occurred around noon on Thursday, December 28th, 2023, at 12:40 pm local time near Rhodes, Dodekánisos, South Aegean, Greece, as reported by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a moderately shallow depth of 35.1 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.1 earthquake. A third agency, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.6.
