Small magnitude 3.6 quake hits 35 km northeast of Patras, Greece late at night 3.6 quake 26 Dec 11:22 pm (GMT +2) The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 3.6 quake in Greece near Patras, Achaea, Western Greece, only 5 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Tuesday, December 26th, 2023, at 11:22 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 5 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Glyfada (pop. 480) located 1 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have been felt in Aigio (pop. 20,400) located 15 km from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Nafpaktos (pop. 13,400) located 23 km from the epicenter, Itea (pop. 4,800) 29 km away, Amfissa (pop. 6,900) 30 km away, and Patras (pop. 168,000) 35 km away. In Lamia (pop. 52,000, 65 km away), Agrinio (pop. 46,900, 65 km away), and Livadia (pop. 21,500, 68 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
