Magnitude 2.8 earthquake strikes near Snake Bay, Tiwi Islands, Northern Territory, Australia 2.8 quake Australia: Milikapiti, NT, Jan 23, 2024 01:19 am (Darwin time) Just 34 minutes ago, a 2.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Snake Bay, Tiwi Islands, Northern Territory, Australia. The tremor was recorded after midnight on Tuesday, January 23rd, 2024, at 12:49 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 6.1 miles below the surface. The event was filed by Geoscience Australia (GeoAu), the first seismological agency to report it. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Snake Bay (pop. 410) located 9 miles from the epicenter.
