Moderate magnitude 4.0 earthquake 21 km northeast of Tura, India

Just 14 minutes ago, a 4.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Tura, West Garo Hills District, Meghalaya, India. The tremor was recorded around noon on Tuesday, March 12th, 2024, at 1:57 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 5 km below the surface.
The event was filed by India's National Center for Seismology (NCS), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
