Small magnitude 3.7 earthquake 40 km south of Mires, Greece 3.7 quake Crete, Greece, Aug 18, 2024 12:11 am (GMT +3) Just 4 minutes ago, a 3.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Mires, Heraklion, Crete, Greece. The tremor was recorded after midnight on Sunday, August 18th, 2024, at 12:11 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Pompia (pop. 950) located 35 km from the epicenter, Mires (pop. 6,400) 40 km away, Pýrgos (pop. 1,100) 42 km away, Asimion (pop. 1,300) 43 km away, Tympaki (pop. 5,300) 44 km away, Zaros (pop. 2,200) 48 km away, Gérgeri (pop. 1,400) 49 km away, and Agia Varvara (pop. 2,200) 50 km away. In Gazi (pop. 12,600, 72 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
