Small magnitude 3.6 earthquake 62 km southwest of Heraklion, Greece 3.6 quake 30 Aug 4:35 am (GMT +3) Just 6 minutes ago, a 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Heraklion, Crete, Greece. The tremor was recorded early morning on Friday, August 30th, 2024, at 4:35 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 5 km below the surface. The event was filed by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), the first seismological agency to report it. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Pompia (pop. 950) located 24 km from the epicenter, Mires (pop. 6,400) 29 km away, Tympaki (pop. 5,300) 34 km away, Zaros (pop. 2,200) 37 km away, Agia Varvara (pop. 2,200) 38 km away, Arkalochori (pop. 3,500) 49 km away, Gazi (pop. 12,600) 60 km away, and Heraklion (pop. 137,200) 62 km away. In Rethymno (pop. 32,500, 75 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
