Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.5 just reported 5 km southwest of San José del Cabo, Mexico

Just 25 minutes ago, a 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck near San José del Cabo, Los Cabos Municipality, Baja California Sur, Mexico. The tremor was recorded early morning on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024, at 4:58 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 5 km below the surface.
The event was filed by Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Costa Azul (pop. 140) located 3 km from the epicenter.
In San José del Cabo (pop. 69,800) located 5 km from the epicenter, La Playa (pop. 1,400) 8 km away, and Las Veredas (pop. 10,500) 13 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Las Palmas (pop. 11,600) located 24 km from the epicenter, Colonia del Sol (pop. 48,000) 24 km away, Cabo San Lucas (pop. 68,500) 24 km away, and Miraflores (pop. 1,400) 37 km away.
