Small magnitude 2.3 earthquake 2 miles southwest of Fontana, California, United States 2.3 quake 26 Sep 7:52 am (GMT -7) An earthquake of magnitude 2.3 occurred 31 minutes ago 2 miles southwest of Fontana, California, United States, the United States Geological Survey reported. The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 2 miles beneath the epicenter near Fontana, San Bernardino County, California, USA, in the morning on Thursday, September 26th, 2024, at 7:52 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data. Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.3 as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 2.3. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Fontana (pop. 208,400) located 2 miles from the epicenter, Bloomington (pop. 23,900) 3 miles away, and Rialto (pop. 103,100) 5 miles away. In Colton (pop. 54,600, 8 miles away), Rancho Cucamonga (pop. 175,200, 8 miles away), Riverside (pop. 322,400, 9 miles away), San Bernardino (pop. 216,100, 10 miles away), Ontario (pop. 171,200, 11 miles away), and Anaheim (pop. 350,700, 31 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
