Small 2.5 quake hits near Torrevieja, Alicante, Valencia, Spain

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 2.5 quake in Spain near Torrevieja, Alicante, Valencia, 30 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early evening on Tuesday, October 15th, 2024, at 7:56 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 4.4 km. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from Spain's Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.5 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Campoamor R-5 (pop. 500) located 10 km from the epicenter, Pilar de la Horadada (pop. 22,100) 11 km away, and San Pedro del Pinatar (pop. 23,700) 13 km away. In San Javier (pop. 31,400, 14 km away), Orihuela (pop. 86,200, 19 km away), Torrevieja (pop. 101,800, 19 km away), Murcia (pop. 436,900, 22 km away), and Elche (pop. 230,100, 41 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
