PR/CP (2004)011 28 January<br /><br /><br />NATO SECRETARY GENERAL TO VISIT THE UNITED STATES<br /><br /><br />The Secretary General of NATO, Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, will make his first visit to the United States on Thursday 29 January and Friday 30 January 2004. <br /><br />On Thursday 29 January he will give a key-note speech at the National Defence University in Washington, DC.<br /><br />During his visit to Washington, the Secretary General will meet President Bush, with Vice President Cheney, with Secretary of State Powell, Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld and National Security Advisor Rice.<br /><br />In addition, Mr. de Hoop Scheffer will meet members of the US Senate Armed Service Committee and other government officials. He will attend a dinner hosted by the Atlantic Council of the United States.<br /><br />The Secretary General’s program is subject to change.
