Small earthquake of magnitude 2.9 just reported 11 km northwest of Mazarron, Spain

Just 14 minutes ago, a 2.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Mazarron, Murcia, Spain. The tremor was recorded early evening on Thursday, October 24th, 2024, at 7:13 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 5 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, IPMA), which listed it as a magnitude 2.7 earthquake. A third agency, Spain's Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.0.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Mazarron (pop. 35,200) located 11 km from the epicenter, Totana (pop. 29,200) 15 km away, and Alhama de Murcia (pop. 19,900) 19 km away. In Lorca (pop. 91,900, 29 km away), Alcantarilla (pop. 41,100, 34 km away), Cartagena (pop. 212,000, 35 km away), Aguilas (pop. 34,500, 36 km away), Murcia (pop. 436,900, 40 km away), and Molina de Segura (pop. 64,100, 43 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
