Small tremor of magnitude 3.9 just reported 64 km southeast of Thessaloniki, Greece 3.9 quake Greece Nov 1, 2024 01:23 am (GMT +2) A shallow magnitude 3.9 earthquake was reported early morning near Thessaloniki, Greece. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit on Friday, November 1st, 2024, at 1:23 am local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Portes (pop. 210) located 9 km from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Kalamaria (pop. 91,600) located 57 km from the epicenter, Pylaia (pop. 34,600) 57 km away, Sykiés (pop. 45,000) 63 km away, Thessaloniki (pop. 354,300) 64 km away, Polichni (pop. 39,800) 65 km away, Stavroupoli (pop. 46,000) 66 km away, Evosmos (pop. 74,700) 67 km away, and Katerini (pop. 53,300) 67 km away.
