Moderate magnitude 4.0 earthquake 76 km east of Bogota, Colombia 4.0 quake 31 Oct 11:31 am (GMT -5) Just 17 minutes ago, a 4.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Bogota, Bogotá D.C., Colombia. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Thursday, October 31st, 2024, at 11:31 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 5 km below the surface. The event was filed by The Colombian Geological Service (SGC), the first seismological agency to report it. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Medina (pop. 3,100) located 6 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have been felt in Cumaral (pop. 11,300) located 28 km from the epicenter, and Restrepo (pop. 7,500) 33 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Villavicencio (pop. 321,700) located 48 km from the epicenter, Puerto Lopez (pop. 16,700) 68 km away, Acacias (pop. 40,600) 70 km away, Bogota (pop. 7,674,400) 76 km away, Chia (pop. 64,600) 82 km away, Cajica (pop. 25,000) 82 km away, and Zipaquira (pop. 91,200) 87 km away.
