Significant magnitude 5.2 quake hits 79 km southwest of Santiago Pinotepa Nacional, Mexico in the afternoon

A shallow magnitude 5.2 earthquake was reported in the afternoon near Santiago Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca, Mexico.
According to Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN), the quake hit on Tuesday, November 12th, 2024, at 5:18 pm local time at a shallow depth of 16.1 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
