A magnitude 3.4 earthquake near Tennant Creek, Barkly, Northern Territory, Australia, was reported 38 minutes ago by Geoscience Australia (GeoAu), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Australia. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles beneath the epicenter early morning on Monday, November 18th, 2024, at 1:10 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.4 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Tennant Creek (pop. 3,200) located 23 miles from the epicenter.
