Magnitude 4.5 earthquake strikes near Lingayen, Pangasinan, Ilocos, Philippines4.5 quake 26 Nov 5:41 pm (GMT +8) A shallow magnitude 4.5 earthquake was reported in the afternoon near Lingayen, Pangasinan, Ilocos, Philippines. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the quake hit on Tuesday, November 26th, 2024, at 5:41 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Agoo (pop. 29,000) located 6 km from the epicenter, Lingayen (pop. 56,600) 11 km away, Domalanoan (pop. 15,100) 11 km away, and Binmaley (pop. 44,000) 13 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have been felt in Dagupan (pop. 171,300) located 19 km from the epicenter, Mangaldan (pop. 88,800) 26 km away, Manaoag (pop. 59,100) 35 km away, Urdaneta (pop. 101,000) 46 km away, and Baguio City (pop. 272,700) 59 km away.
