Significant magnitude 5.0 earthquake 121 km southeast of Pondaguitan, Philippines

The Philippines was shaken near Pondaguitan, Davao Oriental, Davao, by an earthquake of magnitude 5.0 only 15 minutes ago, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Pondaguitan, Davao Oriental, Davao, Philippines, early morning on Wednesday, January 15th, 2025, at 4:51 am local time. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
