Significant magnitude 5.3 earthquake 8 km southwest of San Francisco de Milagro, Ecuador

Just 24 minutes ago, a 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck near San Francisco de Milagro, Cantón Milagro, Guayas, Ecuador. The tremor was recorded in the evening on Monday, January 13th, 2025, at 9:20 pm local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 50.1 km below the surface.
The event was filed by The Seismological Observatory of the University of Brazil (OBSIS), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
