Magnitude 5.3 earthquake strikes near Iquique, Provincia de Iquique, Tarapaca, Chile The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 5.3 quake in Chile near Iquique, Provincia de Iquique, Tarapaca, only 3 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Saturday, March 15th, 2025, at 10:27 pm local time at an intermediate depth of 98. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Mamiña (pop. 320) located 22 km from the epicenter, Pica (pop. 9,300) 32 km away, La Tirana (pop. 1,500) 33 km away, Pozo Almonte (pop. 15,700) 44 km away, Huara (pop. 2,700) 48 km away, Alto Hospicio (pop. 108,400) 77 km away, Iquique (pop. 191,500) 81 km away, and Camina (pop. 1,300) 99 km away.
